Horticultural & Craft Show
19th September 2026

The Old School Room committee are presenting a Horticultural and crafts show at the Old School Room on 19th September with a wide selection of categories and classes. 

​

The show will feature horticulture (fruit and vegetables), flowers & floral art, cookery, crafts, children’s sections plus some novelty classes.

 

We are grateful to the Swan pub for sponsoring the event, to the Allotment association for their assistance in preparing and managing the horticultural and flower section schedules and to  the women of the Rayne WI who will be managing the refreshments on the day of the show.

Further information about class 110 in the schedule  (Any other vegetable not included elsewhere).

 

There has been an enquiry wanting to know if there was anywhere to enter a pumpkin and secondly how many items should be submitted for various types – I had omitted to think about this properly, sorry.

​

Firstly a pumpkin may be entered in class 110.

​

Secondly , I have looked at the RHS handbook for numbers in this class and because this is a small show I have reduced the recommended number slightly for some which they suggest doing for small shows.

 

I can’t list every vegetable as there is about 3 ½ pages of them but here is our required number for the more common ones. If it’s not listed here then please go by the RHS handbook table.

  • Artichoke (globe): 2

  • Asparagus: 5

  • Aubergines 2

  • Beans (not French or runner): 6

  • Cabbage: 1

  • Cauliflower: 1

  • Celery: 2

  • Fennel: 2

  • Leeks: 2

  • Lettuce: 2

  • Marrow: 2

  • Onions, green, salad or spring: 6

  • Parsnips: 3

  • Peppers (sweet) 2

  • Pumpkin: 1

  • Radishes (small salad): 8

  • Shallots (Pickling): 6

  • Swedes: 2

  • Sweetcorn: 2

  • Turnips: 2
